UGC Extends Deadline for Claiming PhD Fellowship Dues Until July 8

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the deadline for claiming pending dues, including arrears of post-doctoral/doctoral fellowships, to July 8.

Stakeholders, including higher education institutions and students, are urged to claim their pending dues—fellowship, house rent allowance, and contingency—admissible up to March 2024 by July 8, 2024, through the Scholarship Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP).

Responding to numerous requests for an extension, the UGC has decided to extend the deadline to July 8, 2024.

Scholars or nodal officers who have previously applied for the older fellowship rates need not take any additional steps to claim the arrears resulting from the revised fellowship rates. However, claims related to the period up to December 2023 will not be accepted by the UGC after April 8, 2024.

Here are some of the fellowships offered by the UGC:

1. **Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences:**
   This fellowship provides financial support to NET/JRF-qualified candidates for advanced studies and research leading to a PhD degree in Humanities and Social Sciences, including Languages and Sciences.

   - **Eligibility:** Candidates must be qualified in NET-JRF or the UGC-CSIR joint test. Registration for PhD must be completed within two years from the date of declaration of result or issue of the award letter/joining the fellowship.

2. **Dr S Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship:**
   This fellowship offers an opportunity to continue advanced studies and research in Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities & Social Sciences, including languages, in Indian universities/institutions.

   - **Eligibility:** Unemployed candidates who have been awarded the PhD degree are eligible to apply.

3. **Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship For Single Girl Child:**
   This fellowship supports research work leading to the award of a PhD degree under the 'Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship For Single Girl Child'. It aims to promote higher education among single girl children in Social Sciences and propagate the concept of small family norms.

   - **Eligibility:** Any single girl child pursuing a PhD in any stream/subject in recognised Universities/Colleges/Institutes is eligible to apply under the scheme.
