In New Delhi, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have not ruled out the possibility of the INDIA bloc attempting government formation. They mentioned that a decision regarding reaching out to the Telugu Desam Party and the Janata Dal United, both former allies of the party, will be made at an upcoming meeting of the opposition alliance.

The significance of this statement lies in the narrow margin of just 60 seats between the NDA and INDIA, standing at 292 and 232 seats, respectively. The BJP, despite leading in 240 constituencies, including the 62 it has already won, has not secured a majority on its own. Chandrababu Naidu's TDP holds 16 seats, while the JDU has 12.

During a press conference, a reporter highlighted that some NDA partners were former Congress allies and asked if the party had decided to sit in opposition or make efforts to form the government. Mr. Gandhi responded by stating that discussions on these matters would take place in the INDIA alliance meeting scheduled for the next day. He emphasized the importance of seeking partners' opinions before making public statements.

When Mallikarjun Kharge was questioned on the same topic, he hinted at the possibility of new partners joining the alliance. He mentioned that discussions with current and potential allies about working together to secure a majority would guide their actions. Kharge also hinted at maintaining strategic secrecy, suggesting that revealing plans prematurely might alert Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reports suggested that individuals from the INDIA camp, including Sharad Pawar, had reached out to Naidu and Kumar earlier. However, Sharad Pawar denied these claims. The TDP-BJP alliance was formed just before the elections, leading experts to speculate that Naidu might switch sides if it benefits the INDIA bloc. Similarly, Nitish Kumar's recent association with Congress played a crucial role in creating the INDIA bloc, despite him rejoining the NDA in January after snapping ties with the BJP in 2014.
