Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Rasikh Salam Dar faced a 'reprimand' on Thursday for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Despite this, Rasikh Salam showcased an impressive bowling display against GT on Wednesday, leading the DC bowling attack with three wickets in his four-over spell. The 24-year-old pacer was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct.
"Rasikh Salam Dar, Bowler, Delhi Capitals has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 40 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on April 24, 2024," IPL stated in a statement.
"Dar committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," it added.
Recapping the match between DC and GT, Gujarat won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite a brisk start from openers, Jake Fraser McGurk (23) and Prithvi Shaw (11), DC faced early setbacks at 44/3. However, Axar Patel (66) and Rishabh Pant countered GT's bowling attack. In the latter overs, Pant partnered with Tristan Stubbs (26*) to dismantle GT's death bowling. Pant concluded at 88* off 43 balls, with five fours and eight sixes.
DC posted 224/4 in their 20 overs, with Sandeep Warrier (3/15) standing out among GT's bowlers.
In the chase, GT lost skipper Shubman Gill early, but a counter-attack ensued as Wriddhiman Saha (39) and Sai Sudarshan (65) built an 82-run partnership. Later, contributions from David Miller (55), Sai Kishore (13), and Rashid Khan (21*) kept the pressure on DC bowlers. However, DC maintained their composure to secure a four-run victory, restricting GT to 220/8 in 20 overs.
Rasikh Salam (3/44) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/29) were key bowlers for DC.
With four wins, five losses, and eight points, DC currently occupies the sixth spot in the points table, while GT holds the seventh position with identical win-loss records but a lower net run rate.
