"No Use Discussing...": Shubman Gill's Candid Reply Following GT's Third Defeat In Five IPL 2024 Matches

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill believes that the Impact Player rule contributes to the high-scoring nature of matches in the IPL, providing batters with an additional cushion to push hard against the bowlers. In the recent IPL encounter, the 12th instance of a team scoring 200-plus runs unfolded as Delhi Capitals amassed 224 for 4 against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday. Gill expressed his views after GT's narrow four-run loss, emphasizing the importance of maintaining aggression in such high-pressure scenarios.

"We played some really good cricket, and it's disappointing to lose in the end. But everyone showed great character, and we fought till the end. We never felt out of the game at any point. When you're chasing 224, there's no point in discussing plans; you just have to go out and score runs," Gill remarked.

Despite an initial strong showing, GT's bowlers allowed DC to make a comeback, particularly as Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel forged a crucial 113-run partnership. Gill acknowledged that his team conceded a few extra runs in the latter overs, impacting their chances.

"At one stage, we thought we could restrict them to around 200-210. However, we gave away a few extra runs in the last couple of overs. But the positive aspect of chasing is knowing what you're up against. It's a small ground, and the target is achievable. Execution becomes crucial for bowlers, especially if the pitch offers little assistance," Gill explained.

DC's winning skipper Pant showcased his destructive form, smashing an unbeaten 88 off 43 balls, earning the player of the match award. Pant expressed his joy at being back on the field after recovering from a serious injury sustained in a car accident over a year ago.

"Every moment I spend on the field feels better. I love being out there, and I give it my all. Sometimes it takes time, but the first six in the match boosts my confidence. The more time I spend batting, the better I feel," Pant shared.
